New Zealand boat-builders win international awards

Congratulations to McMullen and Wing - twice - and Fitzroy Yachts - also twice - and Alloy Yachts for their success in recent international design award presentations!

MY Big Fish has earned Auckland-based McMullen and Wing great international recognition with the 45m steel and aluminium luxury expedition yacht being selected as the best motor yacht in the 40-65m category in the 2011 ISS Design Awards. Big Fish also won the motor yacht naval architecture award for her designer Gregory C. Marshall Naval Architects in the 2011 ShowBoats Design Awards.



The owner of Fitzroy Yachts-built SY Zefira - already named the 2011 world superyacht of the year - was present to accept two awards at the ShowBoats Design Awards ceremony in Florida last week. Accompanied to the stage by interior designer Rémi Tessier and Ed Dubois of Dubois Naval Architects, Zefira's owner received the awards for best crew and service areas and best exterior design and styling. At the same time, over in Milan, Zefira won the innovation award at the 2011 Nautical Design Awards. The jury's comments included: "The jury appreciated the concept of the design and construction: a yacht of large dimensions has been created, without a need to forcefully create a flybridge area for the wheelhouse. This measure, without detracting from the functionality, has resulted in very sleek lines that, together with the elegance and the high level of finish, determine the perception of the product’s excellence."



Yet again, the team at Alloy Yachts in Auckland can be proud their talent and efforts are acknowledged on the world stage with SY Kokomo winning the naval architecture award for sailing yachts in the 2011 ShowBoats Design Awards.

The team at NZ Marine congratulates everyone at our three multi-award winning yacht-builders and also recognise the other ShowBoats Design Award finalists, Diverse Projects and Vaudrey Miller Tenders, on being selected for these prestigious awards.
