Electric Vehicle R&D engineer position
Voltaic Electric Jets is a fast-growing and exciting start-up developing high performance electric jet propulsion systems for boats. Our vision is to eliminate combustion engines on small watercraft. Believe it or not, but 10,000 outboards produce the same emissions as 1.5 million cars!
We are looking for a highly skilled Electrical Engineer to join our fun team here in Auckland. We are a young and dynamic company, and there is potential for the person in this role to have a big influence on Voltaic’s future direction.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have electrical engineering qualifications
- Be prepared to work in a fast paced start-up environment
- Be capable of working with, testing and assembly of <120 V DC power systems
- Be comfortable being in a boat and on water, as part of the job will involve regular on-water testing
- A fun personality with a good sense of humor
- Be experienced with electric vehicles
- Marine sector experience is a bonus
- Mechatronics engineers will also be considered if they have strong interest / experience with EVs
- Electrical layout planning and design
- Research into and sourcing suitable electrical components (batteries, controllers, motors, etc)
- Consulting with our experts and advisors to help make recommendations and decisions
- Electronics integration
- Assisting with systematic field testing of electric jet boats

About the role
We are seeking a person with extensive boating experience and ideally launches, to join a happy small team. Busfield Marine core business is brokering the sale of used sailboats and launches. We are also the New Zealand agents and the range of Bavaria sail and motor boats which are built in Germany as well as the very popular Nautitech range of sail and power catamarans from France.
This is a commission-only position. We work as a team, so all help and advice will be provided, but the successful applicant is expected to be self-reliant, and will require a high level of boating and industry experience in order to secure a satisfactory income.
An outgoing personality is essential as is a good level of computer skills. A well-presented vehicle is a requirement.

Marine Project Manager
Project Manager for new aluminium vessel builds and refits of various vessels from work boats to superyachts.
This role focuses on customer interaction and service to coordinate the requirements of the client with resource management to an established budget.
There will be a degree of quantity surveying, quoting, planning, materials sourcing, H&S, Product development and reporting.
This positon may be responsible for new vessel build projects of varied durations from 6 month to 2 years, and various refit projects.
A background in the marine industry is beneficial with project management experience.
Essential to have a good level of competence with various software platforms including Excel, AutoCAD and Rhino3D
Excellent communication skills a must, a good understanding of HSWA 2015.

Marine Electrics NZ has full time positions available for both experienced 230 Volt, DC Electricians and Marine Engineers (with DC electrical experience). A background in marine isn’t necessarily required. We are looking for qualified and experienced electricians or marine engineers with a good understanding of DC electrical wiring. A solid background and a keen positive attitude are key. You may be an experienced auto sparky or a commercial 230 volt sparky with a keen interest in boating and fishing looking for a new challenge in an industry you are passionate about.
The successful applicant in this exciting and growing industry will be well presented, have a full NZ driver’s license and a keen interest in the marine industry.
