During his 30-year career Sir Peter Blake won every significant bluewater race on the planet. He then turned his focus to pursuing his passion for protecting and caring for the environment, embarking on a mission to educate people and encourage action.
His expeditionary boat, now called Tara, is coming home for the first time since his death in 2001. The crew has taken up Sir Peter’s mission to increase people’s knowledge and understanding and has spent the last 13 years studying the impacts of climate change on our seas.
Tara will tie up alongside the Auckland’s ANZ Viaduct Events Centre for 10 days in July and will be the centre of several free public events – an outdoor photographic exhibition, boat tours, and an Auckland Conversations event celebrating ocean stewardship – locally and globally.
The Sir Peter Blake Trust is seeking financial assistance to support the events associated with Tara’s visit. If any of our members would like to donate to this exciting occasion please click here to donate. Note: if more funds are raised than needed for this project the Trust will direct these to their leadership and environmental programmes.
The Trust is a not-for-profit organisation created to continue Sir Peter’s legacy of leadership in action by inspiring and mobilising the next generation of New Zealand leaders, adventurers and environmentalists.
