At the recent World Superyacht Awards, Sybaris was named the Sailing Yacht of the Year. Congratulations! Sybaris scooped the awards in both the 40 metre-plus and the overall category. An architectural marvel at 70 metres, its beautiful lines and majestic interior design makes Sybaris a truly deserving winner.
Sybaris is one of the largest superyachts ever built by the Italian craftsmen at Perini Navi, a world leader in the design and construction of superyachts. The jury panel said it is “Beautiful, capable, comfortable and technically advanced, this is a yacht that was considered supreme for its purpose.” The judges had been impressed by the cohesive and elegant design of the interiors, with almost all the furniture and hardware in its palatial rooms built from titanium.
Events Clothing is proud to have contributed to Sybaris through our design and supply of the crew uniform. Our experience in marine clothing and Superyacht uniforms – which now includes clothing the most recent America’s Cup winner, Emirates Team New Zealand – reassured Sybaris of our ability. The entire Events Clothing team worked alongside Andjelka Vukotic, Events Clothing Account Manager, to deliver on Sybaris’ vision of merging comfort and performance into the design and look of the uniform.
On the left is the Chief Stewardess, Peta Rook, a lucky Kiwi aboard this stunning sailing yacht, looking amazing in the uniform.
Working alongside Peta Rook, we designed the uniforms to deliver on the vision of the owner, which was “clean, modern and different.”
“The owner had also requested looking at using a traditional sailor’s uniform, but giving it a fun new look”, commented Helen Thomas, Events Clothing Designer.
In order to deliver on this vision, we took into consideration the minimalistic use of materials on Sybaris and ensured all the fabrics we would use matched in colour exactly.
Finding a way to develop a new take on the sailors’ uniforms led us to classic 40’s and 50’s movies such as Anchors Aweigh and On The Town, featuring Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. “Now I had the fun meets classic meets sexy look.” Helen explained.
Bringing the sailor’s classic tee into women’s wear, with a plunging neck line coupled with a short-pleated skirt, gave it the dash of modern look we needed. The fabric from the collar of the tee was pleated locally in New Zealand to create the skirt. The tee shirt could not be more classic – it is even called Gene!
The crew needed to feel great in the uniforms as well, so fabrics chosen were lightweight, stretch and easy-care.
Beautiful. Minimalist. Comfortable and Classic – with a Modern twist. The ability to deliver on the design, performance and fit required by an award winning superyacht showcases the Kiwi ingenuity of the Events Clothing team. The proof of quality is in those huge smiles of the Sybaris crew!
