The Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show’s 60th anniversary was a huge success with over 34,000 people enjoying four days of the latest boats, engines, electronics, accessories and fishing gear.
Highlights of this year’s show included TV star Matt Watson’s ITM Fishing Show Experience, the new Hosking Trailers Backing Competition, the return of the helpful Boating Guy, along with regular favourites the Club Marine Insurance Discover Boating Centre, the Youthtown Aqua Fun Zone and the free Top Catch Ask the Experts seminars.
Those attending the show also had the chance to win a fabulous array of prizes, including the two Stabicraft/Yamaha Grand Prize Packages, Viking 2+1 Family Kayaks and free Heletranz Heli-Fishing Experiences.
Braedan Griffin from Botany Downs and Chris Dohrman from One Tree Point were the lucky winners of the two Stabicraft/Yamaha Grand Prize Packages. They each took home a Stabicraft “Project Carbon” 1600 (Braedon won the cuddy cabin Fisher and Chris the centre console Frontier), powered by a Yamaha 70hp four-stroke outboard. Sitting on a registered and warranted DMW Premier trailer and with an approximate retail of value of $60,000, each of the prize boats came complete with Furuno electronics, a Fusion sound system, Shimano fishing rods and reels, a comprehensive Hutchwilco fun and safety package, a year’s worth of Club Marine insurance and a year’s membership at the Outboard Boating Club.
Leading New Zealand boat builders also had reason to smile as many enjoyed both strong sales and recognition at the prestigious Boat of the Show Awards.
Mt Wellington GRP boatbuilder Rayglass won the coveted Boat of the Show: Overall Winner Award for their Rayglass Legend 2800, which also won the GRP Fishing Boat Open category. It’s stablemate, the Rayglass Legend 2350, won GRP Fishing Boat 6-7 Metres.
Whakatane’s Extreme Boats also won two awards: Aluminium Fishing Boat Under 6m for their Extreme 570 Centre Console and Aluminium Fishing Boat 6-7 Metres for their Extreme 700 Centre Console. Napier’s Dickey Boats was also a double winner. Their Dickey Custom 850 won Aluminium Fishing Boat Open and Best New Model, while their Dickey 800 Custom won All Purpose Open.
