The world’s top design talent is descending on Auckland during the Volvo stopover to attend the fifth HPYD international conference, organised by University of Auckland and RINA (NZ).
Next year’s High Performanace Yacht Design (HYPD5) conference will take place during the Volvo Ocean Race stopover in Auckland and in order for delegates to see as much of the action as possible, it’s now been confirmed that the conference will take place on 10th – 12th March 2015.
The venue will be central to the stopover hub and the boats and once again organisers expect to hold a range of exciting social events. A full programme will be released later in the year.
HYPD5 will cover all topics relating to high performance power and sailing yachts, and is organised under the auspices of The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) NZ and the University of Auckland.
“New Zealand will be playing host to an international group of scientists, designers and academics focused on what makes sailing yachts go fast now; and how to make them go even faster in the future. The science of achieving speed under sail is at the heart of the fifth High Performance Yacht Design Conference,” says Graeme Finch, of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects, NZ Division, and a member of HYPD’s steering committee.
Creating a hub for international visitors, the conference will take place at the Maritime Museum in the Viaduct Harbour, where the Volvo Ocean Race fleet will be berthed. The steering committee is also pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) Chesapeake and Ecole Navale (Innov’Sail); the international conference on innovation in high performance sailing yachts in Lorient, France, to provide a coordinated rolling three year programme of high quality yacht technical conferences.
The committee is now calling for papers with submissions welcomed on all topics relating to the design of high performance power and sailing yachts, including:
• Structural design and analysis
• Performance prediction
• Wind tunnel and towing tank testing
• Computational methods
• Hull and appendage design
• Regulations and rating rules
