Lloyd Stevenson Boat Builders has had a busy few months, with two new build projects for local clients underway. The team also had a productive time exhibiting at the Hutchwilco New Zealand Boatshow, recently, taking home the award for Boat of the Show – Launch, and
impressing show-goers with the exceptional lines of Lloyd Stevenson boats.
The first project underway is an 18-metre Elite mid-pilothouse launch, which is already well into the construction process and due in the water before Christmas. “This is our 20th build of boats designed by popular local designer Bill Upfold. The clients have just sold their 16 metre Elite, so are very keen to get out on the water next summer,” says Tracey Stevenson of Lloyd Stevenson Boat Builders.
The second project, which Tracey tells us appeals to the yachties on their team, is a 13.5-metre cruising yacht from iconic Kiwi designer, Ray Beale. Construction started in April and is due for launch late 2015. The owners’ brief was for a strongly-built boat set up for short-handed coastal and offshore cruising, while still being a competitive round-the-buoys racer. Built in strip planked western red cedar with E-glass laminates and Kauri internal structure, this vessel will feature a traditional teak and kauri interior.
