At Mitchells Marine, the in-build 20-metre schooner, ProjectJ2, is nearing completion. Four years in the making, with design input from the well-regarded Kevin Dibley and Max Carter, the final stages of work will be carried out with One10 yacht painting at the Mitchells Marine yard in Silverdale, Auckland.
This exciting craft is built for offshore cruising and boasts an innovative steel hull, composite deck and slick cork planking. ProjectJ2, set for two-handed sailing, features an alloy rig, and captive winches to control the two booms with joystick control, setting it at the top of its class. This innovative yacht also features a keel-cooling system for the engine, doing away with the need for heat exchange.
Perfect for a family, or couples’ trip, ProjectJ2 sleeps six in three cabins, with an extra four berths. The joinery and interior fit out is managed and executed by Mitchells Marine, including a gimballed bed in the master suite for ultimate on-water comfort. The large starboard galley is fully kitted out with pantry and washing facilities, which provides both luxury and functionality, allowing for beautiful mid-sail meals.
The transom swings to create an accessway and doubles as a swim platform, as well as a launching point for kayaking, sailing and snorkelling. This project is a credit to Mitchells Marine’s highly capable team, great industry relationships and innovative practices. Mitchells’ team of joiners and boatbuilders is excited to announce ProjectJ2 will be launched in February, 2015.
