Digital switching is now an affordable, realistic option for trailer powerboats, thanks to the new EmpirBus Connect 50.
As shown on the new Extreme boats at the 2016 Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show, Connect 50’s unique design, with its 31 input and output channels (doubling what was previously available), means owners now need just one module instead of two. As a result, the cost of installing digital switching on a trailer boat has reduced from around $10,000 to around just $3000, only slightly more than for an old-fashioned DC panel system.
“This means owners of top quality Kiwi trailer boats can now enjoy the same convenience and control in their boats as they do in their cars,” says Mark Milburn from EmpirBus distributor, Lusty and Blundell Ltd.
“For example, with an On/Off mode, owners can reliably switch off all electrical functions and isolate their batteries with just one push of a button.
“They can create a Night Running Mode and, again by the push just one button, switch on the correct navigation nights perhaps add some subdued on-board lighting or activate a night vision thermal camera or radar.”
The other great advantage is that all these control buttons are in a “heads up” position, high on the dash.
“This means they are easy to activate while still concentrating on the sea ahead,” he says. “No more heads down hunting for the wiper switch or to turn on the bilge pump.”
The Connect 50 has other benefits for trailer powerboat owners, too. Installs are a lot easier, the dash is a lot cleaner and, perhaps best of all, the system automatically monitors all circuits, giving instant feedback on current consumption and immediately identifying any faults.
Made from robust high grade polycarbonate and splash-proof to IP65, the Connect 50 also has optional WiFi for wireless control. It also features the ingenious Molex quick connection system for corrosion-free, fast and easy installation, a manual over-ride and reverse polarity channels to control windows, tables, hatches and wiper synching.
Released at the Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show, Connect 50 is now available on selected New Zealand GRP and aluminium trailer powerboats and through Lusty and Blundell.
